Salone del Mobile 2025: Light, Emotion, and the Alchemy of Design

This April, Milan pulsed with creativity, becoming a canvas of dynamic expression and daring vision for Salone del Mobile’s 63rd edition. The city transformed into an immersive design playground where emotional resonance, sustainability, and the artistry of craft took center stage.

Lighting Takes Center Stage
This year’s Euroluce exhibition was nothing short of luminous theatre—sculptural, transformative, and irresistibly bold. Lighting fixtures transcended mere function, embodying pure drama and inviting interaction, each piece a conversation between form and feeling.

Es Devlin’s ‘Library of Light’
Among the standout installations, Es Devlin’s Library of Light captivated visitors at the Pinacoteca di Brera This monumental kinetic sculpture featured over 3,000 illuminated books rotating within an 18-meter-wide structure, transforming the 17th-century courtyard into a luminous theater of reflection. Devlin drew inspiration from Umberto Eco’s words, emphasizing the endless worlds books can unveil. The installation not only celebrated literature and light but also highlighted sustainable design practices, with components designed for reuse and books donated to Milan’s public libraries post-exhibition. ​

Molteni&C: A Tribute to Milan’s Design Legacy
Molteni&C celebrates the debut of Palazzo Molteni in Milan and reveals its passion for the city with an installation at the Poldi Pezzoli Museum called Letters to Milan. The 2025 Collection, guided by the sophisticated eye of Vincent Van Duysen, skillfully bridged the rich past of Milanese design with a refined contemporary edge. The re-edition of Afra and Tobia Scarpa’s iconic ‘Monk’ chair stood out—an enduring testament to timeless craftsmanship elevated through fresh perspective.

Patricia Urquiola’s Alchemical Vision
Patricia Urquiola’s ALCHEMICA was a masterclass in transformative storytelling, staged within Palazzo Bovara. The installation featured three stages of the alchemical process—‘Nigredo’, ‘Albedo’, and ‘Rubedo’—each represented in distinct environments corresponding to symbolic spaces of the home Urquiola ingeniously captured alchemy’s mystical essence, guiding visitors through immersive spaces that symbolized metamorphosis in domestic luxury, each room a tactile blend of tradition, imagination, and modern sophistication.

Louis Vuitton’s Objets Nomades
Louis Vuitton returned to Palazzo Serbelloni to unveil its latest Objets Nomades collection. This year’s showcase included a revival of Charlotte Perriand’s early textile designs, transformed into luxurious pillows and blankets. The collection exemplified the brand’s dedication to blending cutting-edge creativity with exceptional artisanal craftsmanship.

Apartamento Spagnolo’s Eclectic Charm
Palazzo Castiglioni hosted the Apartamento Spagnolo, a sensorial journey through the vibrant soul of Spanish design. Exhibiton, part of Fuorisalone 2025, presented a harmonious selection of 17 Spanish design brands. Each meticulously curated space, from lush winter gardens to serene courtyards, celebrated Spain’s cultural vibrancy, effortlessly blending history, modernity, and tactile delight.

Milan Design Week 2025 was a celebration of design’s transformative power—where spaces became narratives and objects told stories. It was a striking intersection of heritage and innovation, sculpture and storytelling, vision and emotion—boldly redefining what it means to create in a world where design truly moves us. Milan this year wasn’t just seen. It was felt.
